Welcome

Welcome to the website of the Dutch Recorder Orchestra Praetorius.

Oh boy!

In a separate collaboration with Jongenskoor Rijnmond & Rivierenland and mezzo-soprano Elsbeth Gerritsen and Recorder Orchestra Praetorius exposed a thick 400 years old typical English musical phenomenon: the Consort Song, a contrasting mix of pristine vocals against an intense instrumental background.

Pivotal figure in the development of the Consort Song William Byrd, but a whole generation of English composers in the Western world from the 16th and dawn of the 17th century, including John Jenkins and Thomas Weelkes, has deposited in this genre. Often it was a consort fiddles that the singing voice (s) supported and provided contrast. Anno 2010 Recorder Orchestra Praetorius fulfills this role with the sonority and warm glow of a great Renaissance consort recorders.

The consort song was pre-eminently a genre that was used for elegies, love songs and street scenes. This program will be placed between the songs and church music from the exuberant dance music, so 17th century London to life is. Oh Boy!
