Dutch Recorder Orchestra Praetorius visits the US and Canada

From 18 october to 2 november 2002, the Dutch Recorder Orchestra Praetorius has visited the US and Canada to perform "The Four Elements". During the trip, concerts have been given in Washington, Boston, Montréal and New York.


The trip
The trip of the Dutch Recorder Orchestra Praetorius started on 18 october in Washington. The first concert took place on october 20th in St. Marks Episcopale Church. The next stop for a concert is Boston, the Mekka for recorderplayers. The 23d of october, the orchestra perfoms in the Brandeis University in Boston.
From 24 october onwards, the Dutch Recorder Orchestra Praetorius was in Canada, at the invitation of the Ensemble Caprice from Montréal. The Caprice ensemble from Montreal - together with the American Recorder Society (ARS) and McGill University - is organising a festival under the name of "Une fin de semaine néerlandaise" (A Dutch Weekend) and had invited the Dutch Recorder Orchestra to present a concert and workshops. The Dutch recorder player Paul Leenhouts - a former member of Praetorius - also took part in this festival. He is a lecturer at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam and also a former member of the famous Loekie Stardust Quartet. The concert in Montréal took place on october 25th. Praetorius then stayed in New York for a while, on invitation of the Recorder Orchestra of New York (RONY). There was an all day workshop together with the RONY on Long Island. Dutch Recorder Orchestra Praetorius also gave a concert in the concert series of the Church of the Holy Apostles the 29th of October. At the end of the trip, the Dutch Recorder Orchestra Praetorius gave a children's concert at a school in Long Island.

In turn, the Dutch Recorder Orchestra Praetorius has invited the American Orchestras to participate in the Open Dutch Recorder Days 2004 in Utrecht.
