Norbert Kunst (1958) studied recorder, double bass and bassoon at the Utrecht Conservatory and was active for several years as a recorder maker.  Following his specialization in historical bassoons, he played in a number of European Baroque orchestras, including Les Arts Florissants (Paris), Musica Antiqua Köln, Concerto Köln, La Grande Ecurie et La Chambre du Roy, Ensemble Bouzignac, Anima Eterna, Musica Ad Rhenum and Trio Passaggio.
Since 1979 he has worked as bassist in the Melange Salon Orchestra and the Jazz Combo Zwilly.  Following the death of Piet Kunst(1996), founder and conductor of Ensemble Praetorius, he took on the role of artistic director.

From 2002 until 2014 he was the conductor and "teacher"  of  the StadsPijpers van 's-Hertogenbosch, a group of musicians which restores the lost tradition of minstrels.

Since April 2014, he represents the newly founded ensemble for Renaissance wind "Capella del Arte". An ensemble consisting of 12-14 players who want to make, independently or in collaboration with others, renaissance music widely known.

Besides his work as conductor, he also works as bassoonist and manager for Concerto Barocco, a Baroque orchestra based in 's-Hertogenbosch.

He is also involved in the areas of nature and environmental education, antique restoration, and is founder of NK Art Productions, a training agency for "the art of living".
