Arcangelo Praetorius
Italy, land of sun, of arts, land of well known composers as Corelli and Monteverdi.
The Dutch Recorder Orchestra Praetorius takes you on a trip to the sunny south in the late Middle ages and Baroque era. Beautiful music around Christmas!
Who doesn't know the famous Christmas concerto Concerto Grosso op. 8 nr. 8 by Arcangelo Corelli, a piece for a small group of soloists and an orchestra from the Baroque era? Or the Magnificat composed during the Counterreformation and the seven part Gloria by Claudio Monteverdie? And if you have never heard of Benedetto Marcello or Landini then this is your chance!
The music by Landini and Monteverdi will be performed on renaissance recorders, the predecessors of the modern recorder as we know it. Renaissance recorders have a different sound and the difference with modern instruments will become very clear during these concerts. A concert by 30 renaissance recorder is unique in the world!
The lutiste Ciska Mertens and singers from the Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag will participate in the concerts.
