De Vier Elementen

The Four Elements

On the occasion of their 35th anniversary, the Dutch Recorder Orchestra Praetorius completed a grand jubilee project around the classical theme of the Four Elements (air, water, fire and earth). The music performed consists of two well-known baroque compositions by G.F. Handel, ("Water Music" and "Music for the Royal Fireworks") , plus four contemporary compositions which were specially written for the Dutch Recorder Orchestra Praetorius, in 1998-1999 However, the jubilee project not only contains music, but also oratory, dance, expressive art and sound, odour and lightning effects.

During the first performance of the jubilee project on the 5th of June 1999 in Leiden, the Netherlands, the new CD of the Dutch Recorder Orchestra Praetorius was presented. The CD De Vier Elementen contains the music of the jubilee project.
