"Lonely heights" A portrait of Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck

On 17th and 18th of June, Recorder ensemble Praetorius will performs two concerts with works by Sweelinck.  Some pearls from the works of Sweelinck, including the famous "Chromatic Fantasy ", can be heard in these concerts. Sweelinck is widely regarded as the greatest composer this country has produced. Few Dutch composers of that time could match his skill. Sweelinck was thus on "Lonely heights”. Much of his work is unknown, but recently there has been more interest in his work. Praetorius also wants to contribute and play its part highlighting the versatility of this master. The secular and sacred vocal work in the program will be interpreted by a combination of solo singers and Recorder ensemble. The keyboard works are purely instrumental. Praetorius combines a combination of high and low recorders which produced a pleasant, balanced sound which surprises the audience again and again.
A consort of Renaissance recorders, which has been made available to the ensemble, will be used to perform “Lonely Heights”. This is a unique set of instruments which produces the sonorous sound, ideally suited to performance of this repertoire.
