Gran Partita

The programme Gran Partita comprises music for the recorder written post-Bach. This is unusual in that in the post-Bach period, known as the early-classical period, there is hardly any music for the recorder. No composer wanted to create works for this - at that time - obsolete instrument! Fortunately, such thinking has changed in the 21st century.

The Gran Partita programme contains two works from the 21st century. Commisioned by the Dutch Recorder Orchestra Praetorius, the composer Andrew van Parijs wrote a sinfonia in the early-classical style. The second piece in the programme was recently composed by Paul Leenhouts. This 6-voice piece Sólstafir opens the second part of the programme.

Also included in Gran Partita are arrangements of the Organ Concerto in F-Major by George Frederic Händl, the Sonata in d-Minor, by Georg Phillip Telemann, and of course the Gran Partita by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Of particular note is the performance of two pieces of music by Herman Strategier, based on poems by Guido Gazelle. The text is sung by a female singer.
