"Passion for Passion"

Traditionally the Praetorius Recorder Orchestra plays every year a Passion concerto; this time in collaboration with a singer.
The program includes works by Johann Sebastian Bach of which we will play the well known "Jesu meine Freude". The chorale melody of this famous motet is based on a melody by Johann Cruger, a composer who lived from 1598 to 1662 and wrote in his time many famous hymns.
We also will hear music from the Renaissance of Orlando di Lasso, a Flemish singer and composer. He composed many works, including chansons, madrigals and motets. He sang so beautiful that the story goes that because of his beautiful voice he has been abducted three times. Then you will hear music by two Italian composers of the late Renaissance, Tomás Luis de Victoria and Carlo Gesualda.
In the program you will hear themes of the 40 days time before Easter, Good Friday and the Saturday before Easter. All this done with the unique sound of our consort Renaissance recorders.
